a low hum
and i can hear the windows
in the close darkness
draw near to me
and in the emptiness
i thought i heard you breathe
i must move
but the silence holds me captive
binds me where i lie
on my back in the dark
in all absence of light
and in the emptiness
i thought i heard you speak
the walls talk back to me
in all absence of sound
i can feel the ceiling
press against my cheek
as i turn away slowly
and in the emptiness
i thought i heard you move
my heart quickens
and everything is gone
and in the emptiness
i know i heard you leave
